Medieval Garden
This was in Villefranche-sur-Mer, just east of Nice. A beautiful, historic village full of centuries-old buildings and tunnels and a fort and views over the Mediterranean that could fair make your heart flutter. The ivy in some places seemed like threads that had been sewn to hold the tapestry of each wall together.
This was taken at the fort on top of the cliff overlooking the harbour. A medieval fort that probably was meant to defend the city against forces that came by sea. What I really loved about this scene was that I was looking through a window, then through an arch, then around another wall, then through another arch or window, and what looked like a wall was really a set of stairs. I had to wonder, did the architect or builder, a thousand years ago, plan it this way? Was it possible that this was intended to be able to see whether people were on those stairs, but they couldn't see you?
